Located in the Copacabana district, Hospital São Lucas is one of the most traditional in the city. Inaugurated in 1937 and originally known as Maternidade Arnaldo de Moraes, it became a general hospital in the 1980s and, in 2000, it was consolidated as one of the high standard hospitals in Rio de Janeiro. Focused on medicine of excellence, quality and safety, HSL offers patients and visitors a modern infrastructure, combined with a renowned clinical staff and cutting-edge technology.
The hospital is a reference in hepatology, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeries, in addition to liver, pancreas and kidney transplants. Among his specialties are also robotic surgery, oncology, cardiology, general and bariatric surgery and neurosurgery. Its structure has 210 beds, five inpatient units, a surgical center with 12 rooms, four Intensive Care Units, a CardioIntensive Unit, a hemodynamics sector with advanced technology, a Diagnostic Imaging Unit, a day clinic and a 24-hour emergency room.
In 2018, the São Lucas Copacabana Hospital Specialty Center was created. Located on the fifth floor of Shopping da Gávea [Shopping Center in Gávea], south of the city of Rio de Janeiro, the space functions as an advanced satellite unit of the hospital. With more than 15 sectors planned, it includes the Center for Diseases of the Liver and Pancreas and the Center for Diabetes and Obesity - the first space dedicated to the treatment of obesity and diabetes in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
